The film was announced in October 2014 as Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1. The Russo brothers teamed up to direct in April 2015 and in May, Markus and McFeely signed on to write the screenplay for the film, which is inspired by Jim Starlin’s The Infinity Gauntlet (1991) comic book and Jonathan Hickman’s Infinity comic (2013). In July 2016, Marvel shortened the title to Avengers: Infinity War. Filming began in January 2017 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia, and ran through July 2017, shooting back-to-back with its direct sequel. Additional filming took place in Scotland, England, the downtown Atlanta area and New York City. With an estimated budget of around $316 million, it is the most expensive film ever made.

Avengers: Infinity War had its world premiere on April 23, 2018 in Los Angeles, and was released in the United States on April 27, 2018, in IMAX and 3D. The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised the cast’s performance, the visual effects, the emotional weight of the story and the action scenes. It has grossed more than $2 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2018, as well as the fifth highest-grossing film of all time. In its opening weekend, it grossed $641 million worldwide and $258 million in the U.S. and Canada, setting records for the highest-grossing openings for both. Its sequel, Avengers: Endgame, was released on April 26, 2019.

One of the biggest unknowns surrounding Avengers 4 is the official title of the movie. From Marvel they do not tell anything and fans go crazy theorizing about what would be the name of the expected sequel to Infinity War. Some time ago the Russo brothers shared a cryptic image with the acronym «AA», which led to two theories: the first one spoke of Avengers: Assemble and the second one was much more sanguinary and proposed Avengers: Annihilation.

Avengers: Endgame was a huge moment in movie history. Not just for the MCU, but for the entire film industry. The culmination of over a decade of work, tying together a meticulously woven web of over 20 films in the process.

While the MCU has continued since then, it pulled back the curtain on some of its longest-running storylines at the time.  Endgame included the on-screen deaths of Black Widow and Iron Man, both of which left many viewers struggling to hold back tears.

The comparison to Toy Story 3 suggests that Feige wanted all six of the original Avengers to die at the same time.    Like that scene in the Pixar movie where it looks like the toys are going to fall into the oven, except in Feige’s Endgame, they actually would have.
